Steph Morris Illustrates England's Umbro 1998 World Cup Shirt : Art and Illustration : Soccer Bible

Illustrator Steph Morris has the unique ability to capture classics from football's archives and rework them in artistic form. Most recently, Umbro's iconic England shirt from the 1998 World Cup has been the subject of her work. Pencil drawings with a big impact, memories of Shearer and Scholes, Owen and Beckham will flood back in shavings.

It's all about those finer details and this kit had them all. From the tonal pinstripes, through to the buttoned collar. With the England badge extending out from the collar on additional fabric and a bold two-toned type that sat on the front and back of the shirt, this was no ordinary number. This appearance for England at the World Cup will live long in the memories for so many reasons. Beckham's Predator Accelerators lifting slightly as Simeone edged forward, Owen's outstanding solo mission - quite remarkable.



Picturing a shirt that is up there as one that bridged two eras of football - a true 90s classic and a look at the 00s commercialism - football in a middle ground where hopes were pinned on many a local boy done good. Times may have changed but our favourite shirts live on. In the case of this masterpiece, it's a full scale reworking that shines in true retro glory.
